Natural Gas Safety & Kids
Adults aren't the only ones who should know about natural gas safety.
Children should also be taught how to be safe around natural gas and natural gas appliances.
- Teach children not to play near gas ranges or other gas burning appliances.
- Explain to children that gas smells like rotten eggs so they will be able to recognize the smell of gas.
- Tell older children to leave the house and call the Scottsboro Water, Sewer & Gas Board from a neighbor's house if they smell gas and an adult is not home.
- Instruct children not to play on gas pipes or with the flexible connector pipes that are attached to gas appliances.
